Its jurisdiction covers the states of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka. It was founded by Dr. S. Ramadoss, who also founded Pattali Makkal Katchi, a political party. The organization participated in the Johannesburg Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002, the 50th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in 2006, the 60th International Conference on New or Restored Democracies in 2006, and the United Nations Human Rights Council General Debate in 2013. In 2005 it received special consultative status with the United Nations.
